RESOLUTION 3-96
ORIGINAL
A RESOLUTION URGING ALL ADA COUNTY LEGISLATORS TO SUPPORT THE
RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE LEGISLATIVE INTERIM COMMITTEE ON THE
TRANSPORTATION RESOURCES (TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE) FOR AN
INCREASE IN THE STATE GAS TAX AND MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION
FEES.
Whereas, Ada County has an identified backlog of urgently needed transportation projects which
will cost $420 million; and
Whereas, Ada County has an estimated annual funding deficit of approximately $30 million for
transportation, inftastructure; and
Whereas, the Idaho Needs Assessment Study has identified a current statewide transportation
needs backlog of $5.4 billion; and
Whereas, Local Option Registration Fees and Road Impact Fees have been adopted in Ada
County, but such measures fail to raise adequate revenue to properly fund transportation
inftastructure; and
Whereas, the Transportation Committee recommended an increase in State fuel taxes of four
cents ($.04) per gallon and an increase in motor vehicle registration fees of approximately thirty
percent (30%) and a 50/50 allocation of new funds between local highway jurisdictions and the
Idaho Transportation Department; and
Whereas, the recommendations of the Transportation Committee, if adopted, would result in an
additional $2 to $3 million per year being available for transportation projects in Ada County; and
Whereas, the real gas tax paid per vehicle has decreased since 1972 because of increases in motor
vehicle fuel efficiency and inflation; and
Whereas, adequate transportation inftastructure is necessary for the continued economic vitality
of Ada County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Eagle City Council of the City of Eagle, Ada
County, Idaho:
