HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Meeting Minutes
Eagle City Hall, 660 E. Civic Lane
July 25, 2018 5:30 P.M.

1. CALL TO ORDER:
2. ROLL CALL: Present: NICKEL, STAFFORD, PENCE, DAVINA, WEDDINGTON. A
quorum is present.
Nickel moves to place public comment to be heard prior to adjournment. Seconded by
Davina. ALL AYE... MOTION CARRIES.
3.. PUBLIC COMMENT: moved to end of agenda
This time is reserved for the public to address the Historic Preservation Commission regarding concems or
comments they would like to provide to the Commission regarding any matter, up to and including any subject on
the agenda. Out of courtesy for all who wish to speak, the Commission requests each speaker limit their comments
to three (3) minutes
4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. ACTION ITEM: Finalize adoption of short term and long-term goals. (ZP)
Chairman Pence introduces the item. Weddington suggests providing a quarterly report to the
City Council to keep them abreast of Commission activities, as well as holding the Commission
accountable. It would be an excellent way interact with the Council and exchange ideas. Also
discusses possibly establishing intermediate goals, in addition to the short and long term goals
discussed earlier. Weddington suggests that the Commission should pursue establishing
partnerships with other entities (both within the City and outside agencies) to facilitate
preservation activities. Discussion amongst the Commission.
1. ACTION ITEM: Identification of strategy for implementing short term and long
term goals. Discussion only.
B. ACTION ITEM: Review Historic Preservation Brochure edits and approve for final
printing. (ZP)
Chairman Pence states he will provide documents to review for items 4A and 4B at the next
meeting.
C. ACTION ITEM: Review and approve edits to Downtown Walking tour brochure for
final printing. (JW)
Chairman Pence introduces the item. Weddington provides a rough draft of the brochure and
seeks input from the Commission.
D. ACTION ITEM: Historic Property plaques. Final approval of language; review of
purchasing criteria.
Chairman Pence introduces the item. The Commission reviews plaque language, and suggests
edits to same.
E. Discussion of Historic Downtown Designation. (SN)
Chairman Pence introduces the item. Commissioner Nickel offers to pull together some ideas on
how to promote the Historic Downtown Designation and costs associated with the same. It will
give a rough idea of what the Commission is recommending, so that the information can be

presented to Council for authorization and approval. Tentative timeline to present to Council
would be sometime in September.
5. NEW BUSINESS:
A. ACTJO:V ITEM: Historic property of the month. Discuss how to highlight historic
properties in Eagle via a monthly promotional campaign.
Chairman Pence introduces the item. Discussion of possible ways to promote the I listoric
Properties via social media, city webpage, etc. Write ups on each of the properties could be
added to short term goals. Assistance may be needed for researching properties. The Museum
Curator would be an asset for this project.
13. Report on Eagle Family Fun night.
Chairman Pence introduces the item. Davina reviews the results of the "pop up survey" from
Eagle Family Fun night, regarding the naming of the downtown designation. The most popular
name was: Olde Eagle Village. Discussion regarding naming options.
The Commission decides to take time to review the results of the survey, and then come prepared
at the next meeting with their suggestion for the name.

Richard Ames 120 N. Second Eagle, Idaho. Mr. Ames discusses the walking brochure and
offers suggestions. Perhaps inviting the property owners to highlight the history of their property
and invite them to a meeting. Maybe a "brown bag lunch" to highlight Eagle history might be
another way to promote the 1 listoric Preservation Commission.
Discussion amongst the Commission regarding the suggestions.
6. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business
Davina moves to adjourn. Seconded by Weddington. ALL AYE...MOTION CARRIES. The
meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
