EAGLE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES
May 13, 2002
Call to order 7:04
Present: Vic, Liz, Terry, Ann, and Stan
Approval of the agenda: Terry/Liz
Approval of the minutes: (April) Terry/Liz
Friends of the Library Report
• Made $2,500 dollars on the last book sale
• Skirting for the stage has arrived...the rest can't be far behind
Approval of the Bills
• Missing one bill from Visionteck
• Need to replace keyboards often—probably should be a separate budget line
• Approved Terry/Liz
Director's Report
• No financial report from City Hall
• Ann wondered where the promised $26,000 from Oppenheimer was—Stan to
check
• We have only $93,000 to carry us through until the next tax revenue payment—not
enough to balance our books. City assures us it will be covered, but the Board
prefers that the carry-over be in place so that our books always both look and are
accurate and clear.
• Statistics. Stan requested a summary choosing the same date for several years.
There was a date last week where our circulation was 1,000 items compared to
300 the year before. Ann pointed out that this increase was cared for by the same
number of staff.
• Ann is still working on an agreement with other libraries for co-issuing cards.
• Ann going to a WebPac demonstration June 7 at Boise Public
• Postage skyrocketed again in June. Most of this is due to InterLibrary Loan
mailings.
• Don was supposed to be at the library last Friday with Jeff Lowe to again check for
the height of the disk on the roof. Ann didn't know if that meeting had happened or
not. Stan said that all permits were going to be waived by City Council.
• Ann said that she took her entire staff to a PERSI workshop. After that, they
completed staff training and had a gramma-shower for Janice
• Eagle Fun Days—The Arts Commission announced that it would again perform out
front and Ann is trying to contact Linda Butler about the needed extra supervision
on the rest room areas during that time.
• Also for Eagle Fun Days—Mr. Schwinn and the orchestra would rather perform in
the library rather than the park gazebo. He and Ann are planning and trying to
contact Linda Butler.
• Mary Alice is retiring the end of June
• Sarah is completing her training to be the Technical Services person
• Sharon at City Hall has been working with Ann on salaries. It turns out that we've
not had the updated salary scale from April, 2000, at our disposal. Sharon thought
that was perhaps the Board's oversight.
• Ann questioned Idaho law about a Board member's child working at the library
without conflict of interest. Vic said he had researched this topic and had seen no
evidence of nepotism.
Committee reports—none
Unfinished business—satellite dish—Don not present to report
New Business
• Budget session June 1 at 8 a.m.
• Ann will be retiring in December. Discussed City policy about hiring from within.
Discussed advertising. Stan seemed to think this would be paid for by the city. We
need to decide soon where it needs to be advertised and when the deadlines are.
This probably needs to be done very soon.
• Liz will go off the Board as of September and a replacement will need to be named
Next meeting: June 3, 2002
Adjourn 8 p.m. Terry/Liz
