EAGLE PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES '
d Meeting: October 15, 1984
The Eagle Public Library held its regular meeting on Monday,
October 15, 1984 at 7:30 pm. Meeting called to order by President,
Beverly Hancock. -Members not in attendance were Leola Yucas and
Librarian Ann Ballinger. Minutes of the last meeting were approved.
The budget for 1983-84 was noted, as well as statistics for the year.
The total circulation for 1983-84 was 19,567 items and the library card
holders number 1,428. There were no bills. The new budget for 1984-85
is how in effect and the librarian will begin buying new books.
The new library stationary was discussedd. A design is being
drawn up by Suzie Dethman. The American Library Association library
logo was also noted and will be considered as a possibility.
Beverly reported on the Bazaar committee for recruiting workers at
the food booth. More workers are needed for the two hour shifts. The
plans for the Bazaar were discussed. Also discussed was persuing the
tax-exempt status of the Friends group in order to solicit funds. The
new law which made libraries tax-exempt needs to be clarified for
friends groups. Susan will check on getting it cleaned up in the next
legislative session. '
Fundraising ideas were discussed, including a read-a-thon and
soliciting donations for so many inches of new bookshelf space.
Publicity for the Friends meetings was n'oted. Blida will also
send news releases concerning Trustees meetings and new books in the

library.
Blida attended the Idaho Library Association and Idaho Educational
Media conference in Sun Valley Oct. 3-5. Ann did not attend as earlier
planned. The workshop on micro -computers in small libraries was
especially helpful for learning how to buy.a computer and software, and
what a system can and cannot do for a library. Blida also participated
in the Caldecott Award selection committee.
During Ann's absence the week of Oct. 15-18, the Trustees will
help cover the schedule at the library. Kris Watkins will work on
Monday evening.
Blida reported on the weeding workshop wich she attended October
13 at Boise Public Library. Ann Joclyn from_the State Library gave the
workshop. Part of the workshop was spent in the Last Copy Storage of
the State Library. Idaho libraries send discarded books and if they
are the last copy in Idaho, they are kept. Duplicates and others not
n6eded are also kept in this building, and libraries can pick up books
for book sales. Also discussed was disposal of books.
The Trustees discussed library procedures. The policy manual has
been updated, and the board sees a need to also update the library
procedure manual. This will be done in conjuntion with the
reorganization of the physical arrangement of the library. Also
discussed was an evaluation prodedure for the librarian.
