Mary Lesser of Boise Friends of the Library led a dis-
cusstion on forming a Friends group. Some major points of
this discussion were :
1. Friends have no authority in decision making pro-
cedures for the library or librarian. They can help in
money raising projects and should work compatibly with the
library board.
2. Key point in Friends group is finding a dependable,
enthusiastic leader.
3 . Friends group need not be large.
4. Friends of the Library should incorporate as a non-
profit organization, and draw up simple by-laws . Ms. Lesser
suggested using the services of a lawyer for the above steps.
5 . Friends of the Library should establish their own
bank account, with 2 signatures required from Friend members.
6 . Subscribe to Friends of the Library National Notebook.
This quarterly pamphlet gives ideas , suggestions of fund
raising programs plus other helpful hints to Friends groups.
