HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Special Meeting Minutes
Eagle City Hall, 660 E. Civic Lane
March 28, 2017 5:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER: Pence calls the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL: Present: STAFFORD, PENCE, NICKEL, URQUIAGA Absent: DAVINA.
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None
4. NEW BUSINESS:
A. Discuss Historic Housing designation benefits
Commissioner Pence introduces item Al and A2.
1. Brainstorm potential benefits that the Historic Preservation Commission can offer.
2. Detail approved benefits.
Alana gives an overview of the purpose of the Historic Housing Advisory Committee. She expresses that
there are about 77 potential properties that could be in the Historic Housing designation and they
currently have 30 that have agreed to participate. Pence expresses that plaques can be placed at each of
the properties. General discussion amongst the Commission regarding the incentives of the program. The
Commission has come up with the following ideas:
1. Plaques and rewards for the homeowners on the list.
2. Recognition of a wallcing tour.
3. A signed certificate from the Mayor and recognition at a City Council meeting.
4. Have yearly funds set aside as a reward for improvements. For example, "Home of the Year award."
Also, utilize potential grants that are available.
5. Provide information on resources and historic design advice and guidance. And offer beautification and
maintenance assistance programs.
Nickel moves to make a motion to take the 5 bullet points and use them for the pamphlet. Seconded
by Stafford. ALL AYES... MOTION CARRIES.
B. Create a Historic Preservation Commission mission statement.
General discussion amongst the Commission regarding the mission statement. Commissioner Urquiaga
will generate a few examples of potential mission statements and will share them at the special meeting
on April 18, 2017.
5. ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further business Pence moves to adjourn. Seconded by Urquiaga. ALL AYES...
MOTION CARRIES.
