Minutes - 2016 - Historic Preservation Commission - 11/29/2016 - RegularHistoric Preservation Special Meeting
November 29, 2016.
Roll Call: Present Pence, Nichol, Davina
Jackson House: There will be two meetings Dec 1 in downtown Boise with Shawn Nichol and Zack Pence
attending.
1. Pete L'Orange at SHiPO.
2. John Bertram from Idaho Preservation
The objective will be coordination and support for the City Council session on Dec. 13`h
There was also a discussion on the possibilities for the Jackson Property.
Grant funding There are a lot of opportunities for grant funding, and we need to learn more about what
options there are, and how we would go about applying for them. One of the more critical concerns would be
maintenance on existing properties. We need a process in place for a selection of properties that will ensure
equitable distribution.
Al: Paula Davina to work with SHiPO to do initial research.
Historic District The initial step will be establishing a working relationship with the stakeholders in the
proposed area. The letter that will be going out will be a first step. There will be follow-up meetings with
this group and the greater community. We also need to get additional input on the boundaries for the
proposed district.
The parameter of the area should be designated by signs on lamp posts or street signs. Individual houses
should have a identifying plaque to show the date of construction. Depending on the cost of the signs, one
option would be to do several signs a year — starting with the oldest houses.
Guest Speaker The Daughters of the American Revolution are a potential source for our next speaker. They
will also help us with work at the Dry Creek Cemetery.
