THE CITY OF EAGLE
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

Eagle City Hall, 660 E. Civic Lane
August 12, 2015 5:30 P.M.
1. CALL TO ORDER: Meeting called to order at 5:34 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL: Present: NICKEL, STAFFORD, CULTON. A quorum is present.
3. UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
A. Update on barn windshield survey.
Chairman Nickel introduces the item.
Deputy Clerk Osborn distributes an e-mail from the Madeline Buckendorff, the historian that is
conducting the survey. Ms. Buckendorff has submitted preliminaries to the State Historic
Preservation Office (SHPO), and they have been approved. The final document should be to
SHPO by early September.
Discussion.
B. Report on Heritage Conference in September.
Chairman Nickel introduces the item.
Deputy Clerk Osborn provides registration information pertaining to the conference. General
discussion.
C. Museum Curator's Report: Alana Dunn
Chairman Nickel introduces the item, and notes that Ms. Dunn is ill and unable to attend tonight.
D. Grants, signs, and plaques.
Chairman Nickel introduces the item.
There was discussion of adding two or three more signs. They wouldn't necessarily be on the
National Register, but more of local historical significance. Blue Moose location, 223 N. Eagle
Road and Betty Fisher's home at the corner of 1St Street and Aikens Street are all discussed as
possible locations.
Nickel will work with Ms. Dunn and discuss what process was utilized before and with regard to
signage to find out how to proceed, as well as how to move forward seeking grants for next year.
Discuss possibly contacting former Commissioner Scott and /or Pete L'Orange with SHPO to go
over the process for seeking grants.
E. Quarterly Speakers Programs.
Chairman Nickel introduces the item.
Discussion of speaker options. Daughters of the Revolution, Shannon Lind will be contacted by
Chairman Nickel and shoot for October for a presentation.
Stafford will looking into a speaker list that may be maintained by SHPO and perhaps others will
be identified while attending the Idaho Heritage Conference.
F. Sub - Committee Updates:
1. Pioneer Section of Dry Creek Cemetery
General discussion.

2. Eagle Comprehensive Plan Update
Chairman Nickel gives a brief update on the process to date.
3. Walking Tour
No changes at this time to the current handout. The Commission agrees to order another batch of
handouts, there is still money left in that line item.
4. NEW BUSINESS:
A. Minutes of June 10, 2015.
Culton moves to approve the minutes as presented. Seconded by Stafford. ALL
AYE ... MOTION CARRIES.
B. Merrill Park Rooster.
Chairman Nickel will resubmit an application for design review approval. The Commission
discusses holding a special meeting to have a site visit and review options at Merrill Park.
C. General discussion of upcoming projects.
Discussion the requested code change to reduce the number of Commissioners
5. ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business. Stafford moves to adjourn.
Seconded by Culton. ALL AYES. MOTION CARRIED.
The meeting adjourned at 6:20 PM.
