Minutes - 2014 - Historic Preservation Commission - 11/20/2014 - Regular EAGLE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES
NOVEMBER 20, 2014
ATTENDEES:
Shawn Nickel, (Chairman), Mike Olsen, Pam Kelch, Alana Dunn (Museum Dir)
Rita Stafford. (Jack Beardon has resigned)
Minutes from September 10, 2014 have been approved; Minutes from October
were also approved.
Grant money for 2015 has been received. Grant money for the Moscow Conference
(9/25/15-9/26/15) was also been approved.
The windshield survey met with approval as well.
Quarterly Speaker Program was discussed. Alana mentioned that she has an
exhibit on the local Fire Dept. done at the museum and we would be welcome
to use it. The history of the Eagle Fire Dept. would be a good subject for a speaker in
January 2015.
Rooster: Sharon Bergman (City Hall) will get an update on the status of the Rooster.
Mike Olsen asked if we could have bio's done and he would take pictures of the
members of the Commission to go with them. He would also take photos of the
7 properties currently on the Register.
Rita Stafford was assigned to complete the materials for a "Walking Tour" of
the registered properties. Is there grant money for this? Diane Scott should
be consulted about this.
Alana Dunn: Said she has redone the planters in front of the Museum to contain
only native plants to Idaho. She reported that the River Trail sign is a "work in progress".
There should be a collection of pictures from John Carpenter (Aikens). She also
reported that the Eagle Albertson's wants to remodel and use large pictures on
interior of the store. Alana mentioned that a new case in the lobby of City Hall
is to be dedicated to local collections from citizens for 1 month at a time. She's
working on have oral histories transferred to CD's.
CLG (Certified Local Govt.) funding can be used for Municipal Registry if
approved by SHPO. Alana volunteered to be the CLG rep for Eagle. It needs to
be updated periodically, Pam said she'd do that. Do we need to start adding new
information to it? CLG is a Federal Govt. entity that dictates to the State Govt. to
manage it.

We need to update our Blue Manuals for each member of the commission. We'll

There is an Ada County Preservation website. May will be National Preservation
Month. Copy old time photos (then and now) for both the Municipal and the
National Registry.
Mike Olsen would like to use old photos from the Museum as "new"materials. He
asked if there is any "privacy" issues violated by printing the addresses of these
old photos? (Alana said she would find out)
Dry Creek Cemetery histories with pictures could be a project for us. The Mace,
Aikens and Carpenter families should be good resources as they were all founding
fathers. The Historical Society started this research several years ago. Mike and
Pam volunteered to research this.
Two Vacant Positions are available on the Commission with both Frank Thomas
and Jack Bearden's resignations. Sharon Bergman said they are being advertised.
Commissioners were encouraged to submit ideas early for the May Celebration
at Ann Morrison Park.
Shawn suggested we might take "field trips" once in a while to see some of
the existing or proposed historical properties.
We should work with the Mayor's office to honor former commissioners
Karianne Fallow, Frank Thomas and Jack Bearden.
Next meeting will be Dec. 10, 2014
Mike moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:35 p.m. Pam Kelch seconded.
