Minutes - 2013 - Historic Preservation Commission - 09/11/2013 - Regular Eagle Historic Preservation Commission Minutes of September 11, 2013 Call to Order: 5:30 p.m. Roll Call: Thomason,Scott, Kelch, Stafford, and Bearden. Fallow and Nickel absent. Unfinished Business: A. Approval of minutes: Thomason made a few spelling and grammar corrections to the minutes. Then made a motion for approval of minutes,Commissioner Scott first and Commissioner Kelch was second. B. Grant application update: This was tabled for the next Commission meeting since Commissioner Fallow was absent. C. Quarterly Speakers program: Charman Thomason shared concerns about getting a nice turn out for the program with t Sheri Sharp. He encouraged each of the Commissioners to attend as well as to bring friends and family. Thomason mentioned the small turn out on previous occasions in spite of events being publicized. Thomason asked for suggestions for a title about this / program with Sheri Sharp.After several attempts from the commission it was decided that it should be called: An Evening with Shari Sharp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Jackson. Commissioner Stafford offered to notify the same contacts that she has used in the past to promote the program for October 23`d Commissioner Scott offered to video tape the program using the city's video equipment. Thomason stated that the program would be run as a round table, with question and answers in a casual atmosphere. D. Update by Museum Coordinator Alana Dunn: This was tabled also because Alana Dunn was absent. New Business: Merrill Rooster Project: Commissioner Thomason stated that he spoke with Galan and Nancy Merrill at an event in City Hall the previous evening.They told Thomason that they were very excited about the Rooster being placed in the Merrill Park.They stated that the rooster was in excellent condition because they had it completely restored when it resided in Emmett. Commissioner Thomason stated that Mr. Mike Aho head of Parks and Paths was invited to attend the meeting tonight. Since he was absent Commissioner Scott called his cell phone, Mr. Aho stated he was detained due an overtime meeting with the city attorney. He also stated that if the Commissioners could wait for him he would be there in a short time.The Commissioners agreed to wait. Casual chatter ensued while waiting for the arrival of Mr. Aho. Topics of discussion included; Steps needed to nominate the Beal property to the National Register of Historic Places, Commissioner Stafford needs a map of boundaries of Eagle and Meridian,getting involved with Preservation Idaho, letter boxing, and the possibility or not of homes tours. Mr. Mike Aho arrives with an apology to the Commission. Commissioner Thomason stated to Mr.Aho that the Commission felt strongly that the Merrill rooster should be placed in Merrill Park. He also stated that the Commission wants his input in this project. Mr.Aho stated the concerns of his group are the ascetics of the park with placement of the Merrill rooster. He stated that they have studied many possibilities of placement with no really good plan at this point. He states that the park has a very natural look with native plants and feels that the rooster would hamper that look. Mr Aho stated that we needed to talk with Parks and Rec in order to move this forward. Hopefully to corroborate a plan that would be pleasing to all. Mr Aho stated that ultimately he would work directly with us to determine a location for the rooster in the park. It was established that we meet with Parks and Rec. This meeting would take place: On Tuesday October 15, at 5:30 p.m. during their regular meeting at city hall. Chairman Thomason closed the meeting stating that our next meeting would be on Oct.9, 2013.
