Minutes - 2011 - Historic Preservation Commission - 06/08/2011 - Regular EAGLE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
Minutes of June 8, 2011
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 5:35 pm.
Roll Call: Commissioners Frank Thomason, Alana Dunn and Pam Kelch were present. Commissioner
Karianne Fallow had an excused absence. Commissioner Diane Scott joined the meeting 20 minutes
late. Museum Curator Laurie Baker was also present.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Approval of Minutes: The May 11th minutes were unanimously approved.
Historic Preservation Code Changes: The City Council approved the Commission's request that the
number of commissioner seats be increased from 5 to 7. The commission feels that adding another
male to the commission would bring a nice balance. Curator Baker stated she already has one person in
mind for one of the commission seats, but if anyone knows of any men that would like to participate,
please let her know.
Commission Budget: Curator Baker provided a handout of the breakdown of the 2011/2012 Historic
Commission Budget. The commission agrees that this is a sensible budget. Commissioner Dunn asked
about Historic Markers and the grant matching funds. Curator Baker explained that the commission has
wanted for some time to have professional markers made both for local register historic sites as well as
for National Register sites located in Eagle.
Idaho Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month: The commission was pleased with the turn out
of the presentation"Weird and Wacky Sites on the Historic Register"presented by Don Watts on May
18, 2011. The total head count was 34 people. Due to the great turnout at May's two presentations, the
commission is considering a quarterly speakers program(see `New Business').
Historic Preservation Commission Bylaws: The commission agreed that at the next meeting, with all
commissioners present, the bylaws will be a main focus. All in attendance agreed also that this is a task
that has been put off and needs our full attention.
NEW BUSINESS
Eagle Fun Days: Commissioners Dunn and Kelch are going to head up Eagle Fun Days. Last year, the
museum set up a scavenger hunt for the children and handed out bags of popcorn for a prize. We thought
this year we would do the same. Commissioner Kelch stated she will reserve a popcorn machine and
have it delivered. Commissioner Dunn will bring pop and water that we can sell for$1. Also,
Commissioner Kelch is going to make fans that can be handed out to the public. It was agreed that any
money made at this time would go back to the Museum, as monies to buy the pop and rent the popcorn
machine will come out of the current museum budget.
Quarterly Speakers Program: The Commission agrees that since there was great turn out for the last
two speaker programs,we should try to have a program every quarter. It was decided by the
commission that Commissioner Dunn is going to set up the next speaker in September. Curator Baker
said she would set up a meeting with Janice Campbell, the assistant Director of the Library, in order to
help facilitate this new program.
Eagle Historic Commission Banner: Commissioner Kelch brought up the possibility of having a
banner made for the commission. She stated that it would be good public relations to have a sign at the
commission functions stating who we are and what we represent. Commissioner Kelch asked each of us
to think about how we would like it to look and what graphic art we would like on it, and to bring our
ideas to the next meeting.
Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Alana Dunn, Secretary
