Call to Order: In the absence of Jason Pierce, the meeting was called to order by Chairperson pro-tem, Nancy Suiter at 6:30. Roll Call: Gwen Sears, Shari Sharp, and Nancy Suiter attended. Also present were Eagle City Councilman, Mike Huffaker and Curator, Laurie Baker. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Approval of Minutes: Ms. Baker noted a spelling error in the minutes of March 13,2008. Nancy Suiter moved and Gwen Sears seconded the motion to approve the minutes as amended. The motion passed. Ms. Baker then sought to correct an error in the minutes ofthe February 14,2008 minutes. Nancy Suiter moved and Shari Sharp seconded the motion to re-amend those minutes. The motion passed. Curator's Report: Laurie Baker reported that the Comp and Class study mandated by the City of Eagle was completed and turned into the city on March 13,2008, as required. She is scheduled to be interviewed by representatives of The Mercer Group, Inc., on April 3, 2008, and the findings from that meeting will be added to the written comments on the Position Questionnaire. The resulting information will then be used to determine how the Curator's job should be classed and compensated. On Tuesday, March 25, 2008, the local chapter of the P.E.O. held their meeting in the Museum. Ms. Baker made a brief presentation to the twenty-four women present who later expressed their appreciation for her remarks and for the opportunity to see the facility and use it for their meeting. Ms. Baker reported she had filled out a full-page questionnaire from the journalist, Linda Funiaole, providing her with information about Eagle's history for inclusion in articles to appear in future editions of EM and IDAHO magazines. The remodel of the space previously occupied by the Chamber of Commerce is nearly complete. Rick Waters ofS3 Sign Specialty Services is working on a sign of the Museum's logo to put in the front window and MaryFrances Agrusa of Three Olives Design will be ordering the wood blinds and installing them when the sign is complete. Ms. Baker also intends to contact Dan Friend regarding making silk screen banners for the front porch posts and has also asked Craig, of Trautman Lawn and Landscape, the city's grounds maintenance contractor, to improve the appearance of the planter boxes. It is hoped that these cosmetic changes to the facade will draw attention to the Museum and make it more visible and appealing to passersby. The Curator reported on her attendance at the annual conference of the Idaho Association of Museums (lAM) in March. She feels it was a valuable learning experience. (See the April Curator's Report for more details on workshops and presentations.) While there she was elected to the lAM Board for a term of two years. The Board provides guidance to other small museums in the state and plans annual conferences. Donation Review: Donations this period include two photographs of the Eagle flour mill by Gary Walker and a number of portrait photographs from the subjects of the "In Their Own Words" section of the Arthur Hart manuscript. The Museum also acquired photographs of Eagle's former mayors to be on a permanent loan basis from the City. Nancy Suiter moved and Gwen Sears seconded the motion to accept these donations. The motion passed. Facilities Expansion: See Curator's Report. lAM Conference: See Curator's Report. Eagle Auto Fest: There was some discussion among Commission members as to the difficulties encountered in planning last year's Fest. Sponsors were difficult to obtain and the monetary profit to the Museum was negligible. Commission members also expressed concern about finding viable sponsorships this year. Further discussion about how to proceed was postponed until the May Commission meeting when two Auto Fest "veterans", Betty Fisher and Jason Pierce, both absent at this meeting, might have something to contribute. Council liaison, Mike Huffaker, also expressed concerns regarding the auto show's relevance to the Museum mission. NEW BUSINESS Gift Shop Additions: There are new photo postcards of scenes of contemporary Eagle for sale in the gift shop. The photographer is Dud Mausling who is asking for 30% (about 45 cents) on each consignment sale. Miscellany: Laurie Baker asked for volunteers to help clean out the storage room on a future Saturday, the date to be determined at a later time. The Commission was reminded of the dates of Laurie Baker's vacation, June 19 through July 10. She plans to return to the Museum on Friday, July 11 and Saturday, July 12. There being no further business, Gwen Sears moved and Shari Sharp seconded the motion to adjourn. All voted aye and the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. Re:2spec;tfullY submitted, ,/ r. ) f4:/JeA-/!U/~ N Y Suiter, e ",.......... .' .... "..., ~ EAGl ~.. ~..<ti.1 0......... Ii' ~1L " .6.-" , ..
