Minutes - 2005 - Historic Preservation Commission - 12/07/2005 - Regular
THE EAGLE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES FReM THE MEETING{}F:
necemberi, 2UU5
The meeting was called to order at 9: 15 a.m. by Chairman Diane Scott.
Roll Call: Commission members attending were: Diane Scott, Betty Fisher, Weldon Fisher
and Phyllis Schlador. Also attending were Geneva Trent and Ann Gibson. Absent was Larry
Rackham.
Approval of Minutes: Betty made a motion to accept the minutes of the November 2nd
meeting as written, Weldon seconded the motion, and the motion passed.
Approval of Expenditures: Prior to reviewing the expenditures, Geneva read an e-mail from
Sharon Bergmann about the Commission having lexhausted its cash funds and need to wait
until January when franchise fees are paid to the City before making any large expenditures.
Expenses presented for approval were from Baldwin & Associates for $45.74 for hanging
files, AASLS for and additional $25.00 for the basic institutional membership to the
American Association for State & Local History, and receipts from Diane Scott for $240.86
for printer ink cartridges, foam mat boards, and a large number telephone for the museum.
Phyllis moved that the expenditures be approved for payment, Betty seconded the motion, and
the motion passed.
Curator's Report: Geneva gave each member a 'Mitten Curator's Report, which follows.
She also eXplained more about the need to be more careful in taking care of the artifacts, and
there was discussion about getting additional storage space and what requirements should be
for preservation of items.
Reception Desk: Diane reported that she had talked with Rolando from Correctional
Industries, but there is still no resolution to repairing the reception desk
Lecture Series: Diane showed the draft brochure that she has designed for publicity for the
series of presentations. Geneva reported that she had checked with the Postmaster about a
saturation mailing, and to cover all 9500 Eagle addresses it would cost $1140.00 just for
postage. The consensus was that the group did not want to spend that much on publicity, so
will print 500 brochures and hand deliver them to businesses and individuals and use press
releases for additional publicity.
New Museum Exhibits: Geneva passed out a long-term exhibit plan. Diane noted that we
need to get cards written up so that whoever is working as docent (when groups come in) can
tell the same story about Eagle's history. Betty asked for time to look over the exhibit ideas
and to go over them at the next Commission meetilllg.
Oral Histories & Recording Equipment: The equipment for oral histories was discussed,
with Diane explaining that the poor quality of som4~ oral history interviews was the poor
equipment. Geneva played portions of two tapes so show the difference between using the

small handheld tape recorders and the good recorder that we borrowed from the state. Weldon
moved that we buy a professional tape recorder and microphone after January, Diane
seconded the motion, motion passed. Diane also suggested that Geneva contact Troy Reeves
to determine which tape recorder to order.
Walking Tour: Diane suggested that we do a workshop to decide on what sites to include in
a walking tour, planning to do it in May. Other ideas were to do a spring tour on one side of
town and another tour in the fall of the other side of town, or to make it a Trolley Tour so
some people that could not otherwise walk that urr could also participate. A workshop date
will be set at the January Commission meeting.
New Business - Acceptance of Donations: Geneva presented the list of donated items for
which we have Deeds of Gift, and asked if the Commission wanted to accept all listed items.
Diane moved to accept all items listed, Phyllis seconded the motion, motion passed.
Computer & Telephone System: Geneva reponted that presently the e-mail is not working
and there have been some problems with the computer not disconnecting from the phone line,
but that the City's computer guru has been contacted about it. Diane told Geneva to also ask
Leonard about putting in a reader card for the digiltal camera. Geneva was also asked to print
up a card and post it by the telephone with instructions on how to retrieve messages.
Car Show: Diane read another e-mail from Sharon Bergmann on putting on another car show
in August, and asked Geneva to start on the list of things that we need to do.
Adjournment: There being no other business, Diiane adjourned the meeting at 10:35 am.
Respectfully submitted,
