THE EAGLE HISTORIC PRESERVATION
COMMISSION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF: September 17,2003
The meeting was called to order at ] :25 pm by Chainnan Weldon Fisher.
Commission members in attendance were Weldon Fisher, Theresa Steach, Lois Kunkler,
and Geneva Trent.
Lois Kunkler moved to approve the minutes of May 21,2003, seconded by Theresa
Steach, and passed.
Weldon Fisher expressed his concern about the Register of Eagle's Historic Sites, he
thought some one from the county was supposed to give us some guidelines for
developing our Register. There was discussion about whether the irrigation canals and
drain ditches qualified as historic sites.
The history ofthe buildings in Old Town Square were discussed; Terry Steach thought
that Mark Butler's daughter has researched the history of them and maybe we can get
copies. Weldon Fisher suggested that maybe we c:an get Don Fluharty to come out and
tell us who build the different buildings downtown and when they were built.
It was mentioned that we do not yet have a tape recorder. Geneva Trent told about not
being able to find a good tape recorder locally, and maybe we should investigate doing
video taping of interviews instead. The group thought that was a good idea, and Terry
Steach said we should have a form to be signed that the video tapes are the property of the
Museum.
It was noted that the next meeting will be on November 19th. Weldon suggested that we
postpone any changes to evening meetings until then.
In discussion of the museum exhibits, Weldon said that he and his brother will move the
map of Eagle up higher on the wall when the weather is bad and they can't work outside.
Weldon told about l.R. Simplot's collection of old tractors and asked about suggesting
that they could be exhibited at Eagle Island Park. The group recommended that he discuss
it with Mayor Nancy Merrill.
