Commemoration of World War One Proclamation 2017
WHEREAS, in 1917, the United States entered World War One. America's entry into the global conflict came about after a
German submarine sank the ocean liner Lusitania. One Hundred and twenty-eight Americans were among those who lost
their lives.
WHEREAS, more than four million families across the Country had sons and daughters serving in the War. A total of
116,516 Americans gave their lives in combat, and another 200,000 were wounded.
WHEREAS, Eagle Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and the David Thompson Society, Children of the
American Revolution have partnered with the United States World War One Centennial Commission to commemorate the
100th Anniversary of the Great War that spanned from July 28, 1914 through November 11, 1918.
WHEREAS, the Centennial's mission is to raise awareness of and give meaning to the events of a hundred years ago.
Partner organizations are encouraged to create educational experiences and programs for all ages, and to honor the heroism
and sacrifices of those Americans who served and those on the home front who supported them.
WHEREAS, During the month of November, Eagle Chapter will place items on display in the Community Cabinet in Eagle
City Hall to honor Idaho ancestors who served in World War One. The story of the Blue Star Service Banner created in 1917
will also be highlighted. On November 9th at 5:30 pm a World War One commemorative wreath will be placed next to the
Community Cabinet by the children of the David Thompson Society, Children of the American Revolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Stan Ridgeway, Mayor of the City of Eagle, Idaho do hereby proclaim November 9th 2017 as a
COMMEMORATION OF WORLD WAR ONE
In Eagle, Idaho, we ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the Framers of the constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly
protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties, remembering that lost rights may never be
regained.
