RE: City Attorney Contract
Dear steve:
In accordance with Paragraph Fifth of the Agreement for Legal
Services, dated December 9, 1986, we are requesting a renegotia-
tion of the basic fees for our services as city Attorney, to take
effect as of January I, 1990.
At the present time, we are paid $300 per month to render
routine legal advice by telephone and to attend up to two regular
or special meetings of the Council and/or the Planning and Zoning
commission. At the time of our contract, the Council was holding
regular meetings only once a month. It was felt at that time that
four hours per month would cover the meetings and routine advice,
which, at $75 per hour, came to $300 per month. Now, of course,
the Council meets regularly twice a month, and the meetings tend
to last longer. We are regularly devoting ten hours per month to
meeting attendance (including travel to and from the meetings),
resulting in time write-offs to our firm of $450 per month for
each $300 which we bill.
We request that the basic fee for services be increased to
$500 per month. We think this would more fairly compensate us for
the basic services we are performing.
In addition, our hourly rate for additional services is fixed
at $75 under the contract. This is well below our standard fees,
and has not been changed since 1986. We request an increase to
$85 per hour for additional services.
