Recreational Water Illness Prevention Week
Whereas water recreational activities are recognized as healthy summer
activities for residents of all ages; and
Whereas this city welcomes the public to visit its many parks and water features
every summer; and
Whereas last year the state of Idaho had more than 500 confirmed illnesses
related to recreational water; and
Whereas it is in the interest of all residents to be aware of and practice safe and
healthy behavior that can prevent the spread of Recreational Water Illness; and
Whereas Healthy Water Recreational Behaviors include:
. Not playing in the water features when you are ill
. Not drinking the water from the water feature or getting it in your mouth
. Washing your hands after using the bathroom
. Taking your children on frequent bathroom breaks
. Changing baby diapers in the bathroom; and
Whereas National Recreational Water Illness Prevention Week highlights the
importance of healthy recreational water behaviors; and
Whereas the Central District Health Department is partnering with other area
agencies to encourage healthy recreational water behaviors.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Phil Bandy, do hereby proclaim the week of May
19 - 25, 2008, as RECREATIONAL WATER ILLNESS PREVENTION WEEK in
Eagle and encourage all participants in water activities, parents, hotels and
motels, health clubs and residential pool operators to spread the message of
Healthy Recreational Water Behaviors throughout the community.
