Proclamation - City Council - 4/18/2006 - Earth Day Earth Day Proclamation WHEREAS, environmental health and public understanding ofthe planet's limited natural resources are vital to Idaho's quality oflife; and WHEREAS, environmental equality is the right of all people to live in a healthy community regardless of race, ethnicity, socio-economic status and geography; and WHEREAS, a healthy environment includes clean schools, access to public transportation, clean water, clean air, strong infrastructure, affordable housing and asthma prevention; and WHEREAS, environmental education mobilizes and promotes community leadership, long term community infrastructure broadening the environmental movement, through increased public education and awareness; and WHEREAS, individual empowerment thorough programs educating Idaho's citizens on recycling, energy use and conservation and sustainability of such is available; and WHEREAS, common sense conservation and the preservation of resources have begun to transcend political and cultural boundaries as more citizens become involved in conservation; and WHEREAS, Idaho citizens have expressed interest in both using and learning more about conservation and preservation and their effect on air quality, economic development and energy independence; and WHEREAS, Earth Day is celebrating its 36th Anniversary in the year of 2006 and will be celebrated in Boise and surrounding areas the week of April 17 - 22, culminating with service projects throughout the Treasure Valley, special events, and activities at Julia Davis Park on Saturday, April 22, 2006, designed to highlight the quality of life in Idaho and the importance of understanding what each individual and business contributes to the health ofIdaho' s natural systems. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nancy C. Merrill, Mayor do hereby proclaim the period of April 22, 2006, to be Earth Day in the City of Eagle, Idaho, and I encourage all Idahoans to learn more about Earth Day and how they can impact earth friendly practices into their lives and businesses to provide an environmentally friendly way of living that can protect Idaho's quality of life for all of Idaho's citizens and future generations. ,...........
